Pan American Global Holdings, which owns the branding rights has started the process to reestablish the airline.

It has filed for a Part 121 scheduled operator license in the US.

It is working on it with consulting firm AVi8 Air Capital, which has formulated a startup business plan.

The firm says it has experienced airline professionals in place to assist with the certification process and has support from lessors.

They have suggested it would operate Airbus aircraft and be based in Miami but has shared any planned routes.

The original Pan Am was founded 98 years ago.

It shut down in 1991.
